Your first Himalayan trek is equal parts thrilling and intimidating. The good news: with the right preparation, almost anyone with reasonable fitness can stand on a high mountain pass and feel the world fall away beneath them.
Start training early
Begin at least six weeks out. Cardio is king — running, cycling, or brisk uphill walks build the engine you'll need above 3,000 metres.
- 3–4 cardio sessions a week
- One long walk on weekends, building distance
- Basic leg-strength work (squats, lunges, step-ups)
Respect the altitude
Acclimatisation isn't optional. Ascend gradually, hydrate relentlessly, and never ignore a persistent headache. Our itineraries build in rest days for exactly this reason.
The mountain will always be there. Turning back is not failure — it's mountaineering.
Pack light, pack smart
Layering beats bulk. A good base layer, an insulating mid-layer, and a waterproof shell will handle almost any Himalayan weather.
